Elm-ash diner
£320
The four uprights for these chairs are made from a
single Elm pole, the shape of which dictates the form
of the chair. Elm is particularly suitable for
this due to its tough and stringy nature.
The rails are made from cleft ash (split from the log)
which is dried and shaped with a
draw-knife. By drying the rails first, a very smooth
finish can be obtained with the knife, so no need for
sanding. Because the rails are dried to a greater
extent than the elm, as the elm dries further in
your home it will actually tighten around the ash
rails increasing the strength and longevity of your
chair.
The chairs are finished with oil and bees wax and a
woven Jute seat.
