Tom Redfern: Furniture

The term 'steam bent' means exactly that: the timber is first steamed inside an insulated pipe to soften it then bent into shape. Here one of the legs for the chairs is in the process of being steamed. The wood I use is green (freshly cut) and is steamed for about an hour to make it pliable.
